Fishing nets - Active fishing gear
Beach seine net division according to their shape and structure
- beach seine nets differ in shape, construction, size and usage
Beach seine net – without bag – one-depth
Design
- the core of the beach seine net is made from one strip of net with constant height
- the strip is narrowed at the net edges to requested height
Advantages:
- it is possible to haul the net asymmetrically
- it is possible to haul the net from just one side
- it is easier to regulate amount of fish caught
Disadvantages:
- lower fishing efficiency
- long and high nets are heavier than beach seine nets with bag
Usage:
- fry beach seine nets
- small beach seine nets – fishing for small amount of fish
- large beach seine nets without bag used when symmetrical haul is not possible
Beach seine net – with bag – multiple-depths
Design:
- the net is made from 3 - 5 net strips of various heights
- strip in the middle of the net is widened, making the bag
- bag is placed symmetrically in the center of the net
- edges – the strips are narrowed at the required depth length
Advantages:
- lower net weight
- high efficiency – minimal amount of fish escape during hauls
- fish are concentrated in the bag when the beach seine net is hauled close to the shore
Disadvantages:
- it is necessary to haul the net symmetrically to the shore
- it is necessary to reach the shore with center of the net
Usage of multiple-depth beach seine net
- small beach seine nets – fishing for large amounts of fish
- large beach seine nets – fishing for large amounts of large fish
- fishing out majority of fish stock
